Book Gives Voice to Children Who Witnessed Family Violence
“The Cryin' House” brings to light the effects of family violence to children

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (9/22/11) – According to aaets.org, over 3 million children are at risk of exposure to parental violence every year. Family violence has many adverse and long-term effects on the victim and even the people who witness the abuse. In her book, The Cryin' House, author Dr. Julee S. Poole gives voice to the children who grew up in a violent home environment.

The Cryin' House is a poignant reading experience that brings to light the experiences of children who live in a violent home. It explores the pain and suffering that these silent victims have to go through and the dynamics of the family. Readers will be gripped by the dismal reality of violence within the family and its effects on children. At the same time, readers will come to realize that there is hope and something can be done to help the child. This eye-opening read is a gateway for children to explore their feelings and an opportunity for adults to provide effective support.

Although presented in the wrappings of a picture book, there are nuggets of truth embedded beneath the storyline. Poignantly written, The Cryin’ House not only emphasizes the gravity of family violence, it is a helpful tool for adults to discuss this delicate subject to children.
